Help Us Transform Mental Health Care: Support the Synaptic Institute

Founded in the summer of 2020, Synaptic Institute was officially granted 501(c)(3) status in March of 2022 as a nonprofit organization, marking a significant step in our threefold mission to provide compassionate clinical care, conduct innovative research, and train excellent clinicians in psychedelic therapy. Today we are at a crossroads that presents an opportunity to more fully embody that mission.

Since our inception we have offered individual ketamine-assisted therapy and naturopathic care to those grappling with various forms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and other mental health challenges. We have always strived to create a world where skilled practitioners foster care and connection to self, others, and the broader community by offering integrative and holistic health services with a strong focus on mental health.

We have successfully developed and provided training programs specializing in both ketamine and psilocybin-assisted therapies thanks to our dedicated team including our board of directors, advisory board, over 17 faculty members, and several clinical practitioners who share our commitment to healing. Our vision for training is rooted in cultivating ethical and socially responsible practitioners of entheogenic medicine, grounded in the principles of holism, traditional wisdom, and scientific research.

In addition to our clinical services and provider training programs, we are committed to conducting and promoting innovative research aimed at understanding  not only what makes us thrive and heal, but to make holistic treatments more accessible. Currently, in collaboration with the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) and the Sheri Eckert Foundation, we are conducting clinical research to treat depression in low-income adults through group therapy within the Oregon Psilocybin Services (OPS) model.

Our Vision for the Future

Looking ahead to January 2025, we are excited to announce our goal of raising $40,000 to expand into a multi-disciplinary integrative clinic in Portland, OR. This clinic will bring together experts in primary care, naturopathic medicine, Chinese medicine, and psychotherapy, all collaborating to treat the whole person. We aim to be in-network with several major insurance providers, including medicaid, to ensure that our integrative clinical services are accessible to those in need.

A key goal in establishing this integrative medicine practice is to create additional revenue sources beyond philanthropic donations. We believe that the funds generated by the clinic will not only support its operations but, when combined with our fundraising efforts, will enable us to offer sliding scale options for services not covered by insurance. This approach will help us extend our reach and ensure that all individuals, regardless of their financial situation, have access to the care they need.

At the Synaptic Institute, we hold the conviction that none of us are truly free until all of us are free. We are dedicated to fostering a healing environment that is welcoming to everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, or lifestyle. Our commitment to non-discrimination and cultural competency includes making our services accessible through partnerships with various insurance providers and offering sliding scale and group programs that make non-covered services more affordable.

Future research projects include the collection of data from all consenting patients to not only ensure quality of care, but to enable outcomes based research. Group programs for meditation, microdosing ketamine, and microdosing psilocybin, among others are a much needed means of making services affordable, accessible, and communal.

Your Support Makes a Difference

To make our vision a reality, we need your help. By contributing to our fundraising campaign, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming healing environment that champions inclusivity and accessibility for all. Your tax-deductible donation will help us expand into a clinic that empowers community members on their healing journeys and provides essential services to those who need them most.

Together, we can transform mental health care and create a brighter future for our community.
